EVGA 1000GQ Power Supply Review & Unboxing

Electrical fluctuation can be very painful sometimes and especially when you have stored very important data in computer and within few shocks, it would be useless to cry over spilled milk.

Laptop although have revolutionized the hardware industry but they simply do not replace computers.

Whether you are an avid gamer or blogger or you use the computer for your daily stuff, traditional computers have improved manifolds.

Therefore computers are still referenced for most of us till today. 😉

But peak load can be very problematic for computers which cannot operate at higher level of voltages. It can burn away your motherboards and hard drives. 🙁

This is a direct loss of money and value?

And what if your data could not be recovered? 😮

So the golden rule here is safety first. There are multiple options available in the market to keep your computer safe.

However, the market is so saturated that most of the time it seems that we are trying to discover things instead of selecting. Quality plays a major role in the selection of the item.

Let’s Review EVGA 1000GQ Power Supply:

EVGA enjoys one of the most reputable places in computer hardware and they have produced some really solid power supplies that efficient, cooler and quiet.

The company has introduced some really worth-buying series such as P2, G2, and GS. GQ is one of the latest iteration and it stands for “Gold Quality”. I will be explaining later why it is called gold quality. The company also titled it as “Great Quality, Great Value”.

GQ series includes a number of products having the varying capacity. There are basically four products having a major difference in power capacity ranging from 650W to 1000W. I will be reviewing EVGA 1000 GQ here.

Let’s have a look on specs first:

  • Brand Name: EVGA
  • Quality: Gold Quality (GQ)
  • Hardware Platform: PC
  • Weight: 7 lbs.
  • Color: Black
  • Power Source: AC
  • Voltage: 220-240VAC
  • Dimension: 7.1 x 5.9 x 3.4 inches

Okay, that’s all for the specs. I will now move to unboxing. The box is wrapped in the transparent wrapper from which product’s name can be.

Little hard to open it and you have to use scissors. Inside we have the user manual and two pairs of cables.

I recommend you to read manual in order to install it on your device. Finally, we have the big boy.

The design is minimal and won’t be taking much of your space. On its back, we have plenty of sockets. This model is semi-modular.

There are some really good features that I must mention here. First of all this model is modular. What do we mean by modular is that you don’t have to deal with the mess of cables.

There are plenty of sockets on the back, designed to be used very specifically.

Only plug in the cables you need and you will be hassle free from the cable clutter that looks very bad when placed near your computing device.

Let’s have a look at its performance. This device utilizes the power of 100 pure Japanese capacitors to deal with electrical variations.

I connected it to my PC and it was surprisingly calm and noise free. EVGA named it as whisper silent performance.

Talking about the fan, it doesn’t run all the time. EVGA 1000 GQ is designed such that fan doesn’t spin until it’s very necessary. Even with the fan running, there was no irritating noise at all.

This power supply has an integrated ECO mode that keeps it completely mute for low to medium loads. It means it won’t be using its energy in the operation during low loads. At 70% of the load, the noise would be 15-20 DB which is very nice indeed. At full 100% load, this level rises to 40 DB.

Fan operation is also very smooth. Thanks to fluid dynamics bearings, the fan keeps moving any break.

The spin doesn’t feel abnormal even at higher loads. Even with all these safety measures and innovative technologies, EVGA provides us with 5 years warranty.

1000W GQ also has an upper hand over its predecessors in terms of +12V rail rating which is 83.3A in this case. The device has layers of safety in itself too.

Heavy duty protections include OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection)

And finally, let’s discuss what GQ is. It stands for Gold Quality and why it is called gold, I explain it to you here.

It has a golden efficiency which means efficiency up to 90% even at 115VAC. For 220V to 240V, it is even higher and goes to 92%.

Due to this efficient performance, it is given name gold quality power supply.

If installing it could be a problem for you, I recommend you to get professional installation from customer service.

Although you will have to pay few more bucks that would help you make a safe installation. The company will send their men for this purpose.

They will remove the existing power supply, install their one and will perform a short test to check the performance.

So this is basically our EVGA 1000 GQ. Modular PSUs are the need of the hour and 1000 GQ is the best choice. Once get a modular one and you won’t have to worry about loads at least for five years. Try to go with professional installation because otherwise, you may get your device burned if the power supply doesn’t get proper configuration.
